The goat nervously glances at the woods, the twitch of her ear betraying her anxiety. The wolf brushes her tail against the goat’s side in silent comfort, her gaze fixed on the stars above.
"Do you think they’ll ever accept us?"
"No one has ever tried before," she murmurs, her voice trembling. "But I’d rather risk everything than lose you."
The goat lowers her head, voice barely audible. "My family will never understand. They see your kind as monsters."
The wolf lets out a broken laugh. "And mine see yours as dinner. It’s hopeless, isn’t it?"
"Maybe we could run away—find a place where no one knows," she whispers, the hope in her voice fading as she speaks.
The goat stiffens as she recognizes the silhouettes. Her heart pounds, and she presses closer to the wolf, desperate for comfort.
"There’s no time," she says, voice thick with emotion. "If they find us together, they’ll tear us apart."
The wolf brushes her muzzle against the goat’s lips, her fur soft and damp with dew. "Let me stay with you, always," she whispers.
The goat chokes back a sob as she returns the kiss, their breaths mingling in the dark.
"Eat me," she urges. "If you swallow me, no one can separate us. We'll be together inside you, forever."
The goat trembles, tears streaking her face, but she obeys. Slowly, painfully, she swallows the wolf whole, their bodies entwined one last time.
The goat lifts her head to the stars, silent tears glistening in her fur, knowing there was no other way. In the hush of midnight, the meadow remembers their love—a love that defied every rule, and paid the price.
