Amanda returned from evening walk, both thrilled and apprehensive. She was just released from chamber, adjusted her breathing apparatus and swam along city streets and corridors . Still, she wasn't allowed to swim without two wardens, but she enjoyed to explore the world, unknown to those above the waves. Her path was illuminated by the gentle luminescence of the city's lights, guiding her into mysteries of this hidden civilization.
Sophie inhaled and started to tell."Long ago, our founder, Alexandria Smith, discovered underwater surviving technologies. She dreamed about underwater colonisation, but wasn't understood. She exiled herself and her followers from the surface world, and they founded the Civilization Beneath The Waves, a sanctuary for those cast aside. City of Science, for better and rational life,Sophie explained, her voice weaving the narrative with reverence. "So, you're not from here – how did you get our city? It's practically impossible".
Amanda watched at the images, revealed the struggles and triumphs of the city's inhabitants. Her own journey into the Unknown felt small – yet was significant within this vast tapestry. "I was captured," Amanda confessed, her voice a whisper. "I was swimming along the reefs, getting deeper and deeper, and found there abandoned ruins. Then, wardens catched me, chained my hands and carried to council leader. She sentenced me to never come back to surface, and now, I'm awaiting for initiation. I'm now lost." Her eyes met Sophie's, seeking understanding.
"Mycondolences to you", Sophie assured her gently. – " I was born here and have never seen the sun or the sky. But I would never want to lose them like you did", she continued. – "So, you're getting ready for initiation? You'll pass – you must pass underwater labyrinth and get the Cave of First", Sophie explained. – "After initiation, you'll be changed into your new bikini – as symbol of your renewal and becoming one of us. Probably, aquamarine – as symbol of sea current".
Amanda stood beside Sophie, and felt the weight of the city's history upon her, a legacy she had to join. "I thank you so much for telling me story of this civilization", Amanda said with voice, full of determination. Sophie smiled, and answered: "I hope, one day, it will be your home also. Or, maybe, you'll return true home". Their eyes gleamed with girlish pride. Together, they looked out over the city, ready to embrace the adventures that awaited them in the depths, and to be good friends.
