Lila, a young American woman with a pink-beige shoulder-length wig with thick bangs, creamy white turtleneck sweater, brown overalls, and deep blue eyes, hurried along the street. In her arms, she cradled Miso, her orange-brown tabby kitten with blue eyes, dressed in a high-end red knitted dress and a cheery yellow woolen hat. The city’s hum faded behind them as they turned into a narrow alley, seeking shelter from the drizzle and the odd sensation that they were being watched.
Miso squirmed in Lila’s arms, her blue eyes luminous in the gloom. "Don’t look back, Lila. Just keep walking," came a voice—clear, melodic, and unmistakably not human. Lila froze, heart pounding, and stared down at her kitten in disbelief. "Miso? Did you just… talk?"
Miso glanced over Lila’s shoulder, ears flattening. "I have to tell you something, but we really can’t stop. They’re looking for me—and now, for you." Lila clutched Miso tighter, her breath coming in short bursts. "Who’s ‘they’? What are you?"
Miso’s fur bristled as she looked up at Lila. "I’m not from here. I’m an alien, sent to observe Earth. But my mission’s changed. Now, you’re in danger because you helped me blend in." Lila dared a glance over her shoulder, but Miso yowled, "Don’t look back! If you see them, they’ll know you know."
Lila ducked beneath an arch, gasping as she set Miso on a mossy bench. "What do we do now? I can’t just leave you," she whispered, her voice trembling. Miso pressed her tiny head into Lila’s palm. "Trust me. As long as you don’t look back, we have a chance. But if you do… everything you know could change."
Lila took a steadying breath, her deep blue eyes reflecting the fairy lights above. "I won’t let anything happen to you. Alien or not, you’re my Miso," she vowed. Miso purred, a strange, resonant sound that shimmered in the air, and together they gazed forward—never daring to look back, as a new adventure quietly began.
