On the fertile side, couples strolled hand in hand, their children chasing each other through wildflowers. The air rang with laughter, and the earth was rich beneath their feet. Across the river, a band of single men stood vigilant, clutching metal coins and watching the couples with suspicion. Their land was barren, the grass thin, the trees gnarled, and the moon seemed closer to them, yet forever out of reach.
Gregor, Leader of the Single Men, stamped his coin into the dirt, his face twisted with pride and paranoia. Marta, a Mother from the Coupling Society, approached, her child tugging at her skirt. "You want water? Pay for it. You want to cross? Show your passport," he barked, waving the symbol-marked coin. "But it is our world too. We plant, we care, we nurture. Why must we pay for what is freely given by the earth?" Gregor only shook his head, eyes darting to the moon above.
Elan, a Coupling Man and Teacher, addressed his friends, "They’ve forgotten what it means to be part of something living. Their coins cannot buy them a future," he said, glancing at the lonely guards. Marta nodded, "They call themselves moon men, but the moon is barren. We must show them there is another way." The couples agreed: something had to change, for the sake of their children and the world itself.
The single men are startled as the crowd approaches. Tomas, the Oldest Single Man, steps forward, clutching a bag of coins. "You will not pass!" Elan responds, "We come to reclaim what is ours—to share the water, the land, the air. We do not need your coins." Children rush past, laughing as they splash in the river for the first time in years.
Gregor gazes at the moon, envy and regret in his eyes. Elan stands beside him, "You have built borders and minted coins, but what have you grown? Look at the moon—lifeless, cold, the image of what your world could become." Marta lays a hand on Gregor’s shoulder, "Join us. Plant with us. Let’s green not just the earth, but the moon itself." Gregor’s defenses falter as he looks from the dead moon to the living land below.
The moon’s surface transforms, sprouting the first shoots of green. Children dance in the moonlight, their laughter echoing across both worlds. The coins of control are tossed into the river, forgotten relics of a lonely past. Gregor, Tomas, and their companions dig side by side with Marta and Elan, their faces lit with smiles and the promise of a future shared.
On a hilltop, the leaders of both societies gather, watching as a new dawn rises. "We have touched the moon, not with coins, but with open hands and open hearts," Elan says softly. The others nod, basking in the peace they have fought to create. The world, once torn by division and control, is now united in growth, love, and the endless possibility of new beginnings.
