As I pushed open the door of the crowded café, the familiar sounds enveloped me, a comforting symphony to start the day. The barista's smile was welcoming, but my attention was immediately drawn to a figure at the corner table. Alex, with wild, unkempt hair and a frantic look in their eyes, seemed out of place amidst the calm morning routine. "It's you," they exclaimed, catching me off guard as they grabbed my arm. "We've been married for years, and you must help me save our future!"
I stared at Alex in disbelief, my mind racing to comprehend their claim. "I'm sorry, but I don't know you," I replied, trying to pull away. They held my gaze, their eyes pleading. "You don't remember, but you will," they insisted. "In 2045, everything changes. A catastrophe that only you can prevent."
Alex leaned closer, their voice dropping to a whisper. "I've traveled back to find you. Together, we can change the course of history," they pleaded. Despite my skepticism, something in their gaze stirred a faint memory, a flicker of recognition I couldn’t quite grasp. "How can I help?" I found myself asking, a part of me curious about the path they claimed we had shared.
Alex released my arm, a hopeful smile breaking through their anxiety. "We need to find the source of the anomaly," they explained. "It's hidden in plain sight, and only together can we uncover it. The clues are scattered across time, but I know where to start." Their certainty was infectious, and despite the absurdity of it all, a sense of purpose began to take root within me.
I took a deep breath, the weight of the decision settling on my shoulders. "Alright," I said finally, meeting Alex's gaze with determination. "I'll help you. Let's find these clues and change our future." The relief in Alex's smile was palpable, and for the first time, I felt the truth in their words. A journey awaited us, one that spanned across time and possibility.
