Ethan Turner stood near his locker, squinting against the sun that spilled from the window above. The morning seemed typical, yet a strange anticipation hummed in the air. "I swear these cookies taste weird," he muttered, recalling the peculiar treat he'd received from Dr. Felix Morgan, the eccentric science teacher known for his unusual experiments.
A sudden jolt coursed through Ethan's body, causing him to stagger. His arms and legs extended rapidly, his height surging until his head nearly brushed the ceiling tiles. Students gasped and scrambled back, eyes wide with disbelief. Jessica, his best friend, stood frozen, her hand covering her mouth. "Ethan, what's happening to you?" she whispered, fear lacing her voice.
Ethan felt his shoes split, the fabric unable to contain his rapidly expanding feet. His jacket strained and tore, revealing the sinewy muscles that had formed beneath. A deep, resonant hum filled the air, vibrating through the tiles and sending shivers down the spines of those nearby. Mr. Harrison, the history teacher, rushed forward, trying to maintain order amidst the chaos. "Everyone, stay calm!" he called, though his voice wavered with uncertainty.
In the mirrored walls of the hallway, Ethan caught a glimpse of himself—his once youthful face now angular and defined, like a chiseled statue. The transformation was nearly complete, and with it came a wave of emotions: fear, confusion, exhilaration. "This isn't you, Ethan. You've got to fight it," Jessica pleaded, stepping closer despite the danger.
Ethan took a deep breath, his new form towering over the silent crowd. The initial shock had faded, replaced by a curious awe. The world felt different from this height, every detail sharper, more intense. Dr. Felix, arriving late to the scene, pushed through the crowd, eyes wide with excitement. "Marvelous! Simply marvelous!" he exclaimed, oblivious to the fear in the room.
Ethan, finally finding his voice, looked around at his friends and teachers, the enormity of his transformation sinking in. "I don’t know how or why this happened, but I promise I’ll figure it out," he vowed, determination in his voice. The day might have started like any other, but it ended with a realization that life, much like his body, had irrevocably changed. The students, still in shock, began to disperse, whispers of awe and fear echoing in their wake.
