Kd sat hunched over a faded journal, his reflection trembling in the glass pane as midnight crept silently outside. The shadows danced with each flicker of the candle, illuminating memories of laughter and loss. Every tick of the clock on the wall sounded louder, echoing the urgency within his heart.
"If I could only go back, maybe I could change everything," he whispered to the silence.
The journal glowed, its pages fluttering open to a date long past. With trembling hands, Kd traced the words that hinted at forbidden knowledge—a way to journey through time. The attic warped around him, and the clocks spun wildly as a portal yawned open, its edges crackling with blue energy.
"I’m coming for you, Mom and Dad. Hold on," he vowed, stepping into the unknown.
Sam, tall and weary, hurried through the throng, gripping a briefcase tightly. Suzan, her red scarf bright against the gray, smiled as she waited on a corner. Kd appeared behind them, his heart pounding as he recognized their faces—alive, untouched by tragedy.
"Mom! Dad!" he called, voice thick with emotion.
Sam glanced back, confusion clouding his brow. Suzan reached for Kd, worry etched in her features. The shadow closed in, a grim specter of the disaster that would claim them.
"You have to listen—there isn’t much time! Someone’s coming, and you’re not safe," Kd pleaded, desperation straining his voice.
In a surge of courage, Kd threw himself between his parents and the attacker, absorbing the blow meant for them. The world slowed, every raindrop suspended in the air, as pain flashed through his body. Sam and Suzan cried out, reaching for their son as the shadow faded into nothing.
"I promised I’d save you... even if it meant losing myself,"
Suzan cradled Kd's head, tears streaming down her cheeks. Sam held their hands together, unable to speak. Kd smiled faintly, feeling time slip away, knowing his sacrifice had changed fate.
"We love you, Kd. We always will," she whispered, sunlight warming their final moments.
