Rachel adjusted her Contest ribbon pin nervously, her eyes sweeping the ancient arches. She felt both the weight of her mother’s legacy and the thrill of forging her own destiny. Beside her, Renée, a retired Top Coordinator, offered gentle encouragement while Aaron, her father, gave a thumbs-up as they said their goodbyes.
"I’ll make you proud, I promise," Rachel whispered, stepping through the grand doors and into her future.
Brooke, tall and confident, was unpacking a set of fishing rods and a framed photo of Kofu, her grandfather. She turned with a broad grin, offering a handshake. Rachel noticed the Cascarrafa badge pinned to her shirt, a subtle sign of pride.
"I hope you don’t mind early morning training—and maybe a Magikarp or two flopping around," Brooke joked, breaking the ice. Rachel laughed, feeling a spark of friendship ignite between them.
Shaun, a bespectacled boy with a ranger patch sewn onto his bag, stared at his hands as a trio of older students snickered nearby. Rachel nudged Brooke, and together they took seats on either side of Shaun, shielding him from the bullies’ gaze.
"Mind if we join you? I’m Rachel, and this is Brooke,"
"Shaun. From Pueltown, Almia. I… I want to be a Ranger someday,"
Brooke grinned. "Guess we’re all chasing big dreams here."
Rachel’s heart pounded as her name was called. She stepped forward and was handed a Poké Ball. Light burst forth, revealing a bright-eyed Chikorita. Cheers erupted as Brooke was paired with a sprightly Mudkip, and Shaun, to everyone’s astonishment, received a Torchic. The professors announced their courses: Contest, Gym Leader, Terastalization, and Ranger, matching each student’s path.
"I can’t believe it… Torchic’s perfect," Shaun murmured, his fingers trembling as he cradled his new partner.
Rachel’s Contest Team grew as she caught Swablu, Oddish, Feebas, Ralts, and Houndour, her routines dazzling classmates. Brooke reeled in Magikarp, Lotad, Mantyke, and passed Terastalization, her Tera Orb glowing with newfound power. Shaun and Torchic worked tirelessly, volunteering in the wildlife reserve, learning the art of calming wild Pokémon. Their bond deepened, challenges faced and victories celebrated together.
"No matter where we end up, we’ll always have Talis," Brooke said one snowy night, as the three shared hot cocoa by the common room fire.
Rachel, now flanked by Meganium, Altaria, Vileplume, Milotic, Gardevoir, and Houndoom, set forth on her Contest journey. Brooke, radiant and determined, inherited Kofu’s Gym, her Swampert, Gyarados, Ludicolo, Mantine, and Tera Orb making her a legendary leader. Shaun, recommended by his mentors and with Blaziken at his side, joined the Ranger Union, ready to protect Pokémon and people alike.
A fierce battle unfolds as Shaun’s Blaziken clashes with Alina’s berserk Golurk. The machine’s energy crackles, Golurk roaring in agony. Shaun, heart pounding, uses his Fine Styler, calling wild Pokémon to aid him. With skill and empathy, he calms Golurk, freeing it from the machine’s grip. The city is saved, Team Fortress arrested, and Golurk released into the wild, its eyes finally peaceful.
Rachel embraces her daughter Samara, while Brooke ruffles the hair of her twin sons, Logan and Leo. Shaun kneels to tie Jade’s shoelaces, pride shining in his eyes. As their children disappear into the crowd, the trio stroll to a cozy café nearby, reminiscing over tea and pastries.
"Remember that time Shaun almost set the lab on fire with Torchic?"
"Hey, at least I didn’t flood the dorms with Mantyke. Twice,"
"We really did have the wildest adventures," Brooke laughs, the warmth of friendship wrapping around them as the sun dips below the horizon.
They share a final smile, knowing whatever paths they walk, their stories will always intertwine. With gentle goodbyes, Rachel, Brooke, and Shaun step out into the twilight—Top Coordinator, Gym Leader, and Top Ranger—each carrying a piece of Talis University in their hearts, ready to shape the world anew.
