Ben lay wide awake on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his heart pounding with anticipation. Today was the day he’d been dreaming about for months—his birthday, and the promise of something special. He could smell pancakes wafting from the kitchen, but all he could think about was what might be waiting outside.
Mom, cheerful and bustling, steps onto the porch, her smile wide. "Come on, Ben, there’s something out here for you!" Ben races out, bare feet skimming over cool grass, his eyes widening as he sees the mysterious box.
Ben gasps, unable to contain his joy. "It’s perfect! I can’t believe it!" Mom laughs and ruffles his hair, her eyes brimming with pride. "We knew you were ready for it. Happy birthday, Ben!"
Mom stands behind him, steadying the bike, her hands gentle but firm. "I’ll hold on until you’re ready. Just keep pedaling, okay?" Ben nods, pushing down on the pedals, feeling the bike wobble beneath him as he moves forward.
"I’m doing it! I’m really doing it!" Mom cheers from the sidewalk, clapping her hands. The world rushes past in a blur of color, and Ben’s heart soars with freedom.
Ben sits on the steps, catching his breath, cheeks flushed with happiness. Mom brings out a slice of birthday cake, setting it beside him. "So, what do you think, birthday boy?" "Best birthday ever," Ben replies, grinning as he looks at his new bicycle, already dreaming of tomorrow’s ride.
