JAPPU, a six-year-old girl with sparkling eyes and a wild mop of hair, crouched beside her bed, clutching a bright red crayon. Her small hands trembled with excitement as she glanced at the door, making sure no one was watching her secret plans unfold.
PABBU, fourteen and tall for her age, lounged on the top bunk, pretending to be absorbed in a comic book but keeping one eye firmly on her little sister.
"Jappu, what are you up to now? Don’t even think about drawing on the walls again,"
JAPPU grinned mischievously, hiding the crayon behind her back and tiptoeing closer to PABBU. She stuck her tongue out and wiggled her fingers in the air, ignoring her sister’s warning.
"Maybe I’m making a secret treasure map! Or maybe I’m drawing YOU with a monkey tail,"
PABBU rolled her eyes but couldn't help smiling. "If you draw me as a monkey, you’ll have to find a place to hide before I tickle you into next week,"
JAPPU dashed out the back door, her bare feet skimming over the soft ground, with PABBU following close behind. She stopped short at a patch of overgrown bushes, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"Look, Pabbu! There’s a tiny door under those leaves. Do you think it leads to a fairy house?"
PABBU knelt beside her, brushing aside the foliage to reveal a rusty latch. "Only one way to find out. But you go first—if it’s full of spiders, you can be the brave explorer!"
