Lila, a curious and adventurous girl with tangled brown hair and wide green eyes, clutched her small canvas satchel close. She glanced over her shoulder toward the distant rooftops of her village, excitement dancing in her heart.
"I'll just explore a little and be back before supper," she promised herself, stepping into the woods.
Lila wandered from the path, mesmerized by a fluttering blue butterfly that darted ahead. She hopped over twisted roots, laughter echoing as she chased the dazzling creature further into the unknown.
"Wait for me!" she called, her voice swallowed by the trees.
Lila paused, breathing hard, as the butterfly vanished into the underbrush. She turned around, expecting to see the sunlit path, but found only endless thickets and unfamiliar trunks.
"Where did the trail go?" she whispered, fear prickling her skin as she spun in slow circles.
Lila called out for help, her voice trembling, but only the rustle of the wind replied. She stumbled over hidden rocks, her satchel swinging, as tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
"I just want to go home," she sobbed, hugging herself tightly.
Lila wiped her tears, noticing the gentle glow of the fireflies. Remembering stories about following water to safety, she gathered her courage and followed the stream, feeling a sliver of hope guide her steps.
"Please lead me home," she murmured to the stream and the fireflies.
Lila emerged from the trees, blinking against the warm light. Ahead, she saw her worried parents running toward her, arms wide, their faces streaked with relief.
"Lila! You're safe!" cried her mother, pulling her into a tight embrace as Lila pressed her face into the familiar comfort of home.
