Jacob Max sat on his bed, green eyes scanning the latest superhero comic as sunlight glinted off his orange hair. His blue clothes, casual and rumpled, contrasted the golden and silver superhero costume hidden beneath his bed. The weight of his secret pressed on him, but today felt like just another normal morning.
Ben Max, his older brother by a year, knocked on the door, his blue hair barely visible as he peeked inside. The room was filled with an awkward silence, the kind that lingered between brothers who’d grown apart. "You coming down for breakfast, or are you going to daydream all morning again?"
Daniel Greg, a wiry boy with short white hair and striking blue eyes, bursts through the back door, yellow shirt glowing in the morning light. He throws his backpack on the floor, flashing a quick grin at Jacob before pointedly ignoring Ben. "Hey Jake, ready to save the world from algebra today?"
Ben Max rolls his eyes, his tone sharp. "Some of us have bigger things to worry about." The air crackles with unspoken words, and Jacob glances anxiously at Daniel, grateful for his friend's loyalty but wary of the rift it’s causing.
He slips into a quiet corner, unzipping his backpack to check the gold and silver costume. His hands tremble—today, there was a rumor of a strange disturbance downtown. "No one can know. Not Ben, not Daniel. It's too dangerous," he murmurs to himself, steeling his resolve.
Suddenly, Daniel appears, his expression curious. "You’ve been acting weird, Jake. If you’re in trouble, you can tell me. I’m your best friend," he says, his gaze searching Jacob’s face for answers.
Jacob Max races into an alley, heart pounding. With a deep breath, he slips on his gold and silver suit, the letters "S J b" gleaming on his chest. As he activates his invisibility, his silhouette flickers and vanishes into the chaos.
Silently, he weaves through the drones, choosing a new power—energy shields. Invisible and unstoppable, he intercepts a blast aimed at a frightened child, the shield shimmering briefly before fading. "Not on my watch," he whispers, determination burning in his emerald eyes.
Ben Max clenches his fists. "Something’s off with Jacob. He’s been disappearing too much lately," he mutters, suspicion mounting. Daniel’s eyes dart to the door, his loyalty to Jacob warring with his fear for his friend.
"Maybe he’s just got a lot on his mind. We all do," Daniel replies, his words gentle but uncertain. The room fills with the distant sound of sirens, and both boys fall silent, their thoughts drifting to the same missing friend.
Jacob Max surveys the city, exhaustion in his stance but pride in his eyes. He knows the price of secrecy, of fighting alone, but the sight of people safe and grateful is enough—at least for tonight.
As the city begins to heal, Jacob melts back into the shadows, his identity as Super Jake still hidden from everyone he loves. For now, the world is safe, defended by a boy who carries the weight of two worlds—one ordinary, one extraordinary—all on his own.
