Janelle stood at the edge of her family’s yard, her eyes fixed on the community center where a crowd had gathered. Her heart raced with excitement as she spotted Tessa, the girlfriend of her neighbor, who was known for her kindness and generosity. Today, Tessa had organized a special treat for the village children, and Janelle could hardly wait to join in.
"Mama, can I go now?" Janelle pleaded, her eyes wide with anticipation.
Her mother, a woman with kind eyes and worry lines etched on her face, nodded reluctantly. "Stay close to Tessa and be back before dark," she advised.
Tessa, a warm and lively woman with a radiant smile, was at the heart of the festivities. "Janelle, come join us!" she called, waving her over.
Janelle rushed into the throng, her laughter mingling with the others as she joined in the games. As the day wore on, she found herself drawn to Tessa, who seemed to carry a piece of the bustling city of Kingston with her.
"Tessa, what's Kingston like?" Janelle asked, her eyes shining with wonder.
"It's a place full of life and opportunity," Tessa replied. "The city never sleeps, and there's always something to discover."
Despite her parents’ concerns, Janelle felt a pull towards the city that she couldn’t ignore. "I have to go," she whispered to herself, her decision made.
Her mother embraced her tightly, tears glistening in her eyes. "Be safe, my child. Remember where you come from," she said softly.
Tessa appeared, her car ready for the journey. Janelle took one last look at her village, her heart full of hope and dreams of a better future.
Janelle gazed out the window, her heart swelling with excitement as the city unfolded before her eyes. She knew she was leaving behind everything familiar, but the promise of new beginnings outweighed her fears.
"Welcome to Kingston, Janelle," Tessa said warmly, as they arrived in the heart of the city.
And for Janelle, this was only the beginning of her story.
