Lila stood at the entrance to the cafeteria, her tray trembling slightly in her hands. The room buzzed with energy, students gathered in clusters at long tables. She scanned the chaotic scene, her eyes darting from table to table, searching for a familiar face. But today, everyone seemed engrossed in their own conversations.
"Just find a spot, Lila," she whispered to herself, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves.
As Lila moved cautiously towards an empty seat, Max, a student with a vibrant purple backpack, caught her eye. He was gesturing animatedly, accidentally tipping over a drink that spilled across the table. The liquid splashed onto the floor, drawing gasps and laughter from those nearby.
"Oops! Guess I'm making a splash already," Max chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
Lila couldn't help but laugh, the tension in her shoulders easing as her eyes met Max's. There was something infectious about his grin, an invitation to join in the humor of the moment.
"Looks like you’re not the only one having a messy day," Lila quipped, setting her tray down across from Max.
