Grandma Edna, silver hair tucked under a bright red helmet, zips along Maple Lane on her teal scooter. Her eyes sparkle behind oversized sunglasses, and her basket brims with magnifying glasses, notepads, and a thermos of tea. Today, the neighborhood basks in gentle warmth, but a mystery is brewing in the air.
"Another beautiful day for adventure," she murmurs, expertly maneuvering around a stray soccer ball.
Mrs. Lin, the neighborhood gardener, wrings her hands in distress. Timmy, a boy with grass-stained knees, points at muddy paw prints leading away from the scene.
"I don’t understand, Edna! My tulips—ruined! And I was hoping to win the garden contest this year,"
"Don’t worry, Mrs. Lin. No mystery is too muddy for me," replies Edna, kneeling to examine the evidence.
"These prints are too big for Whiskers," she muses, tracing the path to a gap in the fence. Timmy shadows her, eyes wide, as they discover tufts of golden fur snagged on a branch.
"Do you think it was a dog, Grandma Edna? Maybe Mr. Parker’s new puppy?"
"Let’s not jump to conclusions, Timmy. The truth is often hidden beneath the surface,"
In Mrs. Gomez’s driveway, she examines muddy paw prints and notices a trail of tulip petals leading to the nearby alley. Edna pauses to sip her tea, her mind racing with possibilities.
"Every pet in Maple Lane is accounted for, except for… Wait, what about the new family on Oak Street?"
Mrs. Bennett, the new neighbor, rushes over with an apologetic smile, leash in hand.
"Oh dear, Sunny’s gotten out again, hasn’t he? I’m so sorry if he’s caused trouble,"
"No harm done, Mrs. Bennett. But I think Sunny owes Mrs. Lin a bouquet—or two," says Edna, grinning as the puppy licks her hand.
"Thank you, Edna. You always know how to bring us together,"
"Mysteries are just puzzles waiting for friends to solve," she replies, already looking forward to her next adventure beneath the stars.
