Faith Lehane strolled through the park, her boots crunching softly on the gravel path. She felt at ease, surrounded by the vibrant energy of families and friends enjoying the sunny afternoon. As she walked, she noticed a young boy watching a group of kids playing tag, longing evident in his eyes.
Faith sat down beside him, offering a friendly smile. Alex, the boy, looked up, his eyes wide with curiosity. "Hey there," Faith began, her voice gentle. "Hi," Alex replied shyly, glancing back at the children playing. "Want to join them?" Faith asked, nodding toward the lively group.
Alex shook his head, his expression slightly downcast. "I... I'm not very good at running," he admitted. Faith nodded understandingly, sensing his hesitance. "Well, I bet you're great at something else," she encouraged. "I like drawing," Alex shared, a small spark of enthusiasm lighting his eyes.
Faith stood up, brushing off her jeans. "How about a ride?" she offered, crouching down in front of Alex. Alex hesitated, then grinned, climbing onto Faith's back. "Hold on tight!" Faith called out, jogging around the park with Alex laughing gleefully.
Faith slowed to a stop, both of them catching their breath. Alex's face was lit up with joy, a stark contrast to his earlier shyness. "That was awesome!" Alex exclaimed. "You're pretty awesome yourself," Faith replied, ruffling his hair affectionately.
Alex waved goodbye as Faith watched him join his mother, who had come to pick him up. Faith felt a sense of fulfillment, knowing she had made a difference in Alex's day. "See you around, buddy," she called out, turning to leave as the park slowly quieted down.
