Ella adjusted the pillows on the couch, her eyes drifting to the clock on the wall. Her heart fluttered with anticipation as the moment of Jake's return drew near. She wanted everything to be perfect for him.
"It's almost time," she whispered to herself, smoothing down her dress.
"Ella?" Jake called, his voice laced with both fatigue and relief.
Ella rushed to his side, her arms wrapping gently around him. "Welcome home, my love," she murmured, resting her head against his chest.
Ella stirred the pot, glancing over her shoulder at Jake who sat at the kitchen table, his eyes following her every movement.
"You didn't have to go to all this trouble," he said, his voice soft with gratitude.
"I want to," Ella replied, bringing a steaming bowl to him. "You need to regain your strength."
Ella took Jake's hand in hers, feeling the warmth of his skin. "I was so worried," she admitted, her eyes filled with emotion.
"I know," Jake squeezed her hand gently. "But I'm here now, thanks to you."
"We'll get through this together," Ella said, her voice steady and sure.
"Always," Jake replied, wrapping his arm around her waist.
Ella watched him, pride swelling in her chest. "You're getting stronger every day," she encouraged.
"With you by my side, I feel like I can do anything," Jake responded, a smile breaking across his face.
