Lila sat at the kitchen table, her little fingers clutching a red crayon. A piece of paper lay before her, adorned with scribbles and drawings of reindeer and a jolly Santa. Her eyes sparkled with hope as she wrote her heartfelt wish.
"Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is for my daddy to come home," she whispered, folding the letter carefully and placing it in a bright red envelope.
Lila placed the letter on the mantelpiece, gazing at it with a mixture of hope and longing. Her mother, Sarah, entered the room, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"It's a beautiful letter, sweetheart," Sarah said softly, her voice tinged with emotion.
"Do you think Santa will read it?" Lila asked, looking up at her mother with wide eyes.
"I'm sure he will," Sarah replied, kissing her daughter's forehead gently.
A soft knock echoed through the quiet house, and Sarah, startled, rose to answer the door. She opened it to find a man standing in the snow, his silhouette outlined by the moonlight.
"Mark?" she gasped, her eyes filling with tears.
Mark, wearing his military uniform, smiled warmly and stepped inside, brushing snow off his shoulders. Lila, awakened by the commotion, sat up, rubbing her eyes.
"Daddy!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around him tightly.
"I've missed you so much, my little angel," Mark said, lifting her into his arms and holding her close.
Sarah joined them, tears of happiness streaming down her face as she embraced her husband, feeling whole once more.
"Thank you, Santa," Lila whispered, looking out the window at the twinkling stars.
"I think we all got our Christmas wish," Mark said with a smile, holding his family close as they savored the magic of that special night.
