Sam crouched at the water’s edge, his big brown eyes studying a cluster of pebbles glinting beneath the surface. Alex, his loyal dog, sniffed eagerly at the grass, tail wagging with playful energy. Without warning, a bright green frog appeared, perching boldly on a flat stone.
"Look, Sam! A frog!"
"Hello, little frog," he whispered, grinning as the frog blinked back at him with round, golden eyes.
Alex wagged her tail, nose twitching as the frog leaped right onto Sam's shoe, refusing to budge. Surprised, Sam gently scooped the frog and placed it back in the cool water, but it immediately hopped after him, persistent and determined.
"Why won’t you stay by the creek?"
"Maybe it wants to play," barked Alex, circling the frog with a puzzled grin.
Sam paused, watching the frog hop a few paces forward, then glance back as if asking them to follow. Curiosity flared in his chest; he exchanged a look with Alex, who whined softly, ears perked.
"Do you want us to come with you?"
The frog croaked again, eyes bright with a mysterious plea, then bounced deeper into the woods.
Alex sniffed the air, then barked, alerting Sam to the problem. The frog hopped to the pool’s edge, croaking anxiously and glancing between the murky water and Sam.
"Oh no, your home is all messy," Sam realized, his heart squeezing. He knelt beside the pool, determination lighting his face.
"We should help clean it," said Alex, wagging her tail in encouragement.

Mud splatters Sam's clothes, and sweat beads on his brow, but he works hard, driven by the frog’s hopeful gaze. Slowly, the pool’s surface clears, revealing smooth stones and darting tadpoles beneath. The frog croaks joyfully, hopping in circles around their feet.
"It’s better now, isn’t it?"
"The water looks happy again," barked Alex, her eyes shining.

Sam knelt down, reaching out to the frog one last time, feeling a new bond between them.
"Thank you for showing us how to listen, little friend,"
The frog gave a final happy croak, then slipped back into the clear water, safe and content. Alex nudged Sam, and together they watched the sun rise, hearts full of courage, friendship, and the magic of listening to those who cannot speak.
