Isabella , a little girl with curious eyes and tangled brown hair, sits cross-legged on her bed, hugging her stuffed puppy tightly. Outside, she can hear the distant barking of neighborhood dogs and the laughter of children playing in the park.
"Oh, Patch," she whispers to her toy, "I wish you could be real. I wish I had a dog of my own."
Isabella tiptoes in, clutching Patch to her chest. She takes a deep breath before speaking, her voice trembling with hope.
"Mom, Dad, can we please get a dog? I promise I’ll take care of it and feed it and walk it every day. I’ll even teach it tricks!"
Mom, a gentle woman with kind eyes, looks at Dad, who raises his eyebrows thoughtfully.
"Lucy, having a dog is a big responsibility," Mom begins softly. "They need a lot of care. Are you sure you’re ready for that?"
"And you know," Dad adds, "dogs can be messy. They chew shoes and sometimes bark at night. We want to be sure you’re ready to help us with everything."
"I really am," Isabella insists, her hands clenched. "I’ll do anything. Please let me show you."
Isabella busies herself, helping Mom with chores and keeping her room spotless. She reads books about caring for dogs and practices commands with Patch.
"You’re doing a wonderful job, Lucy," Mom says, smiling as she watches her daughter.
Isabella [/@ch_1] runs to open it. Outside stands Dad, holding a small, wriggling puppy wrapped in a blue blanket.]
The puppy’s eyes are wide and trusting, its fur silky and warm. Dad kneels down and sets the puppy gently on the floor. Isabella 's face lights up with pure joy.
"We thought it was time for you to have a real friend," Dad says softly.
Isabella hugs her new puppy tight, her eyes shining with tears of happiness. She whispers a promise as the puppy licks her cheek.
"Thank you, Mom and Dad. I’ll be the best friend he’s ever had."
The house feels warmer than ever, and outside, the world is bright and full of possibility.
