Anne Boonchuy clutched her overnight bag, her eyes wide with anticipation as she gazed up at the house.
Sasha Waybright, confident and smiling, opened the door and waved enthusiastically.
"Anne! You made it! I have so much planned for tonight,"
"Thanks for inviting me, Sasha! This is going to be awesome," Anne replied, her excitement barely contained as she stepped inside, her shoes squeaking on the polished floor.
Sasha tossed her bag onto the couch, kicking off her sneakers in one practiced motion.
Anne spun around, taking in the warmth and comfort of the space.
"First things first: snacks or scary movie?"
"How about both? I brought my special chili popcorn recipe," Anne grinned, already heading for the kitchen with a sense of purpose.
Halfway through the film, Anne glanced at Sasha, her expression turning thoughtful.
"Sasha, can I tell you something? Sometimes, I feel like I don’t fit in anywhere—not at school, not even with my old friends,"
"Anne, you’ll always have a place with me. I promise," Sasha replied softly, reaching over to squeeze Anne’s hand.
Sasha launches a surprise attack, swinging a pillow at Anne’s back, sending her collapsing into a pile of cushions.
"Okay, okay! Truce! I surrender to the pillow queen," Anne giggled, breathless.
"That’s right, Anne. Never underestimate my sleepover prowess," Sasha replied, grinning triumphantly.
Anne looked up at the ceiling, her voice soft.
"I’m really glad we’re friends, Sasha. Tonight means a lot to me,"
"Me too, Anne. Best friends forever, okay?" Sasha whispered, linking their pinkies together in the dim light.
Sasha sits up and yawns, a sleepy smile on her face.
"Pancakes for breakfast?"
"Only if I get to make the syrup smiley faces," Anne replied, laughter bubbling up as they both head to the kitchen, ready for another memorable day together.
