It was a bright Saturday morning. The sunlight peeked through the windows, casting golden shapes on the hardwood floor. Outside, birds chirped their cheerful hellos, the world sparkling with promise. In this peaceful moment, the day seemed full of possibilities.
Dena zipped up her favorite purple hoodie, her face aglow with anticipation. "Mia! Let’s go!" she called, excitement bubbling in her voice. Mama stood by the door, car keys in hand, her smile patient and loving. "Mama is ready!"
Dena hurried to get dressed, her curly hair bouncing with each step. She clipped on her favorite pearl earrings—the ones Mama always said made her look like a queen. Her reflection grinned back at her, eyes shining with confidence. Today, she felt special.
It was a family tradition: every drive, they played a game. And today, it was Dena's turn to choose. She remembered something from the Pink for Purity Seminar at school; Ms. Jay, one of the speakers, had said something that stuck with her. The words echoed in her mind, warm and reassuring.
Mia leaned over, curiosity twinkling in her eyes. "So what game are we playing, Dena? It’s your turn!" Dena grinned, her excitement contagious. "Let’s play the Affirmations Game!" Mia giggled, intrigued. "The what?"
Dena explained, her voice soft but certain. "It’s a game where we say something positive about ourselves or about life—things that help us stay strong and believe in who we are." Mia clapped her hands, eager to join in. "Oh! Like, ‘Your eyes are mirrors to your world. Keep shining bright!’" Mama smiled at them through the rearview mirror. "Alright, girls. I’m ready. Dena, you start."
Dena closed her eyes, gathering her thoughts. "If you can’t find a way through something, it’s not a no. It’s just not yet." Mia listened, nodding thoughtfully. "That means... don’t give up, right?" "Right," Dena replied, her voice brimming with encouragement. "Just try again another way!"
Mia took her turn, her words bold and brave. "Giving up is a monster. If you let it win, you’ll never know what you’re capable of!" Mama and Dena clapped, the sound bright and affirming. "Whew!" Mama laughed, "That one gave me goosebumps!"
Then Mama joined in, her eyes kind in the mirror. "Never believe in the negativity around you. Stay positive and move forward." The car fell into a gentle quiet, the kind that wraps around you like a hug. Each girl felt a little taller, a little stronger.
Dena looked out the window, her voice a whisper. "If you feel like the world hates you, just remember—God loves you." Mia reached for her sister’s hand, squeezing it gently. "I love you too," she said, her words a promise.
Mama smiled, the pride in her voice shining. "Here’s mine," she said. "The road to success might be long and bumpy. Focus on the destination, not just the journey." The girls nodded, feeling the weight of her wisdom settle gently in their hearts.
They kept playing as the drive continued, each affirmation building on the last. With every kind word, the car filled up with so much love, it felt like it might burst. Inside, Dena and Mia built a tower of strength in their hearts—a tower no storm could ever knock down.
