Adalyn stood by the crib, her eyes narrowed with curiosity as she watched her new baby brother Colt sleep. She had been dreaming of a sister to share her toys and secrets with, not a brother. The room was warm and inviting, but inside, Adalyn's heart felt a little cold. "I wanted a sister," Adalyn whispered to herself, a small frown tugging at her lips.
Adalyn sat cross-legged, half-heartedly arranging her dolls in a circle. Her mother was nearby, holding Colt in her arms. Colt, with his bright eyes and a tuft of dark hair, giggled and reached out towards Adalyn. "Look, he wants to play with you," Mom said encouragingly. But Adalyn just shrugged, unsure of this new little person in her life.
Adalyn glanced down at Colt, who was staring up at the swaying trees with wide, fascinated eyes. A small, hesitant smile crept onto Adalyn's face. Colt gurgled happily, his tiny hand reaching up to grasp Adalyn's finger. "Okay, maybe you're a bit cute," Adalyn admitted softly, her heart warming as Colt's fingers curled around hers.
Adalyn sat beside Colt, who was nestled comfortably in her lap. He looked up at her with a toothless smile, his eyes sparkling with joy. "I guess having a brother isn't so bad," Adalyn mused aloud, gently bouncing him as he giggled. Her parents exchanged a knowing smile, their hearts full as they watched their children begin to bond.
Adalyn tiptoed into the room, drawn by the soft coos of her brother. She leaned over the crib, gently tucking the blanket around Colt. Colt's eyes fluttered open, and he reached up, placing a tiny hand on Adalyn's cheek. "Goodnight, little brother," Adalyn whispered, her heart swelling with a love she hadn't expected to find.
Adalyn fed Colt tiny pieces of banana, laughing as he made funny faces with each bite. Her earlier reservations had melted away, replaced by a deep affection for her little brother. "I think we're going to have a lot of fun together," Adalyn said, smiling warmly at Colt, who beamed back at her with pure adoration.
