Addison stands in front of her bed, tying the straps of a bright blue backpack. Her long, curly black hair bounces as she moves, excitement sparkling in her brown eyes. She takes one last look around her room, her heart fluttering between nervousness and anticipation. "Today is the day I see the world," she whispers, determination in her voice.
Addison walks briskly down the street, her backpack bumping against her back. She pauses in front of a bakery, the smell of fresh bread making her stomach rumble. An elderly lady sweeping the stoop smiles warmly. Mrs. Lin, the kind baker, with flour-dusted hands, leans out the door. "Off on a big adventure, Addison?" "Yes, Mrs. Lin! I want to see everything," Addison replies, beaming. "Then you'll need this for the journey," says Mrs. Lin, handing her a warm roll.
Addison steps onto the path, her sneakers crunching on twigs. She pauses to study her map, tracing her finger along a winding line that disappears into the trees. A squirrel darts across her path, pausing to watch her with bright, curious eyes. "Do you think I'll find adventure in there?" she asks, giggling at the animal before stepping deeper into the woods.
Addison hesitates at the water's edge, her reflection rippling beneath her. She takes a deep breath, balancing on the first stone, arms outstretched for balance. Halfway across, a frog leaps from the riverbank, startling her. "Whoa! You scared me, little guy," she laughs, regaining her footing and hopping to the other side, triumphant.
Addison drops her backpack and spins in a slow circle, arms wide, soaking in the vastness. Her heart swells with pride and wonder at how far she's come. "The world is so much bigger than I ever imagined," she says, her voice full of awe.
Leo, a fellow traveler, looks up and smiles shyly. "Are you traveling too?" he asks. "Yes! I'm Addison. Want to see the world together?" "I'd like that," Leo replies, and together they watch the sky turn from gold to indigo, knowing their adventure has only just begun.
