Lily and Max carefully carried Nibbles outside, setting him gently on the grass. "Look at him go!" exclaimed lily , watching as Nibbles scampered around. However, their attention soon drifted to a butterfly fluttering nearby. "Let's catch it!" Max shouted, and they ran off, forgetting about Nibbles for a moment.
Nibbles sniffed the air, oblivious to the feline danger approaching. Just then, Mom appeared, her voice cutting through the serene morning. "Lily, Max, you can't leave Nibbles alone!" she called, rushing over to scoop up the little hamster. The cat slinked back, thwarted for now. "Sorry, Mommy," Lily mumbled, her cheeks pink with embarrassment.
Dad entered the room, spotting Lily and Max tugging over Nibbles. "If you can't agree, Nibbles will have to go back to the pet store," he warned sternly. Lily and Max stopped, their eyes wide with worry. "We'll share, promise!" Lily declared, hugging Nibbles tightly.
Lily whispered conspiratorially to Max, "Let's play with Nibbles while Mom's cooking!" They tiptoed to the cage, lifting Nibbles out and setting him in a toy fire truck. "Vroom, vroom!" Max giggled, pushing the truck across the floor.
Lily watched as Nibbles tried to jump out of the truck. Inspired, she picked him up and tossed him gently to Max, who missed him. Nibbles rolled onto the couch with a startled squeak. "Look, he's flying!" Lily laughed, but Nibbles looked less amused, his tiny heart pounding. Dad entered, witnessing the near disaster. "Hamsters can't fly, kids. They're not birds," he explained gently, taking Nibbles into his hands. "Sorry, Nibbles," Lily whispered, understanding the lesson.
