Asher sat at the kitchen table, his small fingers fidgeting with the edge of his toast. The thought of kindergarten loomed over his head like a shadow. "What if the other kids don't like me?" he whispered, looking up at his mom with worried eyes.
Mom knelt beside Asher, smoothing his unruly hair. "You'll make friends, sweetheart. Everyone's just as nervous as you are," she said gently, her smile reassuring him. Asher nodded, clutching his new backpack tightly.
Dad joined them, taking Asher's hand. "Ready for the big adventure?" he asked, trying to sound cheerful. Asher forced a smile, but his heart pounded in his chest.
The school loomed large in front of Asher, its brick walls seeming both inviting and intimidating. Children played on the jungle gym, their laughter ringing in the air. Asher hesitated at the gate, taking a deep breath.
Ms. Lily, a kind-faced teacher with twinkling eyes, welcomed Asher with open arms. "Welcome to kindergarten, Asher! We're going to have so much fun," she said warmly. Asher felt a flicker of excitement amidst his nerves.
As the day unfolded, Asher found himself drawing with crayons and laughing with a boy named Eli. The fear that once clouded his mind began to fade, replaced by the thrill of new beginnings. "Maybe kindergarten isn't so scary after all," he thought as he shared a smile with his new friend.
