Batgirl sat comfortably on the plush sofa, gently cradling little Alex in her arms. With a book in hand, she turned the pages delicately, her voice soothing as she began to read.
"Once upon a time, deep in a dark forest, lived a poor woodcutter with his two children, Hansel and Gretel," Batgirl narrated, her eyes twinkling with each word. Alex listened intently, his small hands clutching the edges of his blanket.
"Do you think they were scared in the forest?" Alex asked, his voice a mixture of fear and excitement. Batgirl smiled reassuringly and replied, "A little, perhaps. But they were brave, just like you."
"As they walked deeper into the woods, they left a trail of breadcrumbs," she continued, her voice capturing the suspense. Alex leaned closer, his eyes wide with anticipation.
"And they lived happily ever after," concluded Batgirl, closing the book with a gentle thud. Alex sighed contentedly, his little head resting against her shoulder.
Batgirl whispered softly, "Goodnight, little hero," as she tucked Alex in, the fairy tale lingering in the air like magic. She gazed out the window, grateful for these quiet moments of connection amidst the chaos of her other life.
