Bear, a big black goldendoodle with a shiny blue bandana, walks proudly beside Mrs. Matlack, the school librarian and his owner. He wags his tail as they enter the building, his soft fur glistening in the light. Bear knows it’s time to work, and he feels happy to see the students’ smiling faces.
Bear stops to say hello to everyone he passes. He leans in for a gentle head scratch from Mrs. Black, who always has a treat in her pocket. "Good morning, Bear! Ready for another great day?" Bear wags his tail and gives a happy bark, making everyone nearby smile a little wider.
Students arrive in the library, some shy and quiet, others bursting with energy. Bear helps a worried-looking fourth grader find a book about brave dogs, nudging her gently with his nose. "Thank you, Bear. You always know what I like," she whispers, her smile growing as she hugs the book to her chest. Bear settles beside her on the couch, offering calm comfort.
Later that day, the preschool students come in for story time.Bear lies down in the middle of the circle, letting the Little Dragons stroke his soft ears and rub his belly. Mrs. Matlack reads aloud, her voice cheerful and warm. Bear closes his eyes in contentment as tiny hands pat his side, soaking up the love and attention.
Later in the office, Ms. Denise crouches to give Bear a crunchy treat, while Mrs. Hill slips him a secret piece of cheese with a wink. "Don’t tell anyone, Bear," she whispers, and Bear thumps his tail in agreement, licking his lips with joy.
Bear hopes he’ll get to visit Weston at the district office soon. For now, he carries his favorite orange rubber ball in his mouth, waiting for recess. Bear knows there are still plenty of students to help, and he feels proud of his important job.
Axel, his white goldendoodle brother, greets him with playful barks. Bear leaps and tumbles with Axel, feeling happy after a long day of helping others. As the sun sets, Bear curls up with a dog book and dreams of another perfect day at school.
