Yubaba, disguised as a beggar woman, pleads for shelter from the storm. Inside, Caillou, the castle’s spoiled young prince, peers disdainfully at her offer.
"Please, kind prince, may I stay the night? I offer this enchanted rose as a token of gratitude."
"Go away, old woman. I don’t need your silly flower," he scoffs.
As the wind howls, Granmamare reveals herself in a burst of blue light, her regal presence filling the hall. She transforms Caillou into Sheriff Woody, a cowboy doll beast, and the castle’s servants into toys. The enchanted rose glows fiercely, its petals drifting slowly downward in the gloom.
Lola Sonner, a curious and book-loving girl, strolls through the village square, a battered novel tucked under her arm. Her father, Wallace, tinkers with a peculiar wood-chopping machine nearby, attracting bemused glances.
"Oh, Papa, one day I’ll have an adventure beyond these hills," she sighs, watching clouds drift overhead.
Bling-Bling Boy, the village’s boastful hunter, struts up with a flourish, trailed by Scott and the giggling trio of Crysta, Princess Isabel, and Stephanie.
"Lola, you should be with someone as amazing as me," he boasts, striking a pose.
"Not today, Bling-Bling Boy," Lola replies, ducking into the bookshop, her dreams of adventure undimmed.
Suddenly, a pack of The Jaguars emerges, their sleek forms darting between the trunks. Wallace flees, stumbling onto the castle grounds, where looming statues and flickering lanterns create an eerie welcome.
"Oh, dear! Where have I gotten myself this time?"
A pair of heavy doors creak open, and unseen eyes watch as he enters the gloomy halls. Within moments, he is seized by mysterious toy hands and locked away in a cold, stone cell.
