Bella, a gentle golden retriever with soulful eyes, nuzzles her three wriggling pups, licking their ears as they yawn in the rising light. The city hums in the distance, but here, her world is small and warm. She counts each pup carefully—Milo, Daisy, and Pip—her heart swelling with pride as they tumble over each other playfully.
Bella’s attention snaps back to her nest—Milo is gone. Panic rises in her chest as she sniffs desperately at the spot where he had been. Her remaining pups whimper, sensing her distress. She nudges them deeper into the cardboard, then pushes out into the alley, her nose to the ground, searching for Milo.
Bella dodges scurrying feet and bicycles, her nose twitching as she follows Milo’s faint scent. She pauses at the entrance to a busy restaurant, where the aroma of roasting chicken fills the air. The chef, wiping his hands on his apron, steps outside and spots her. Chef Marco, a burly man with a soft spot for animals, crouches and offers a scrap of meat. "Lost, are you, girl? Hungry?" Bella sniffs the treat but moves on, driven by worry.
Bella is nearly cornered by a group of territorial cats, but a quick bark sends them scattering. She’s tired and hungry, but the scent trail grows stronger near a playground across the street. Brave and determined, she waits for a break in traffic and dashes across, barely avoiding a speeding bicycle. Her heart pounds, but she presses on.
Sophie, a kind-hearted child with sparkling eyes, had found Milo wandering and alone. "It’s okay, little one. I’ve got you," she whispers. Bella rushes forward, barking with relief as Milo leaps into her embrace. Sophie’s face lights up with joy, realizing this is Milo’s family.
Sophie’s mother stands at the door, surprised but quickly enchanted by the furry family. "Please, can we keep them all? They belong together," Sophie pleads. With a smile and a gentle nod, the door opens wide. The city outside fades away as Bella and her pups curl up together, finally home, their hearts full and their family complete.
