Ben, a small white rabbit with a bright blue backpack, bounds from room to room, his ears flopping behind him. He grabs his toast without sitting and darts toward the door, barely glancing at his family. Lina, his little sister with soft gray fur and wide, hopeful eyes, lags behind, clutching her untied shoes. "Ben, can you help me tie my shoes? Please?" "I don't have time, Lina! I'll be late for school!" Ben slips out, leaving Lina sighing in the hallway.
Ben stops, confused and frustrated, kneeling to search the sidewalk. His ears droop as he realizes he cannot fix the shoe alone. Nearby, Mrs. Bun, an elderly shopkeeper arranging flowers, notices his trouble. "Need some help, dear? Let me see that shoe." She gently retrieves a piece of ribbon from her pocket and threads it through the eyelets, tying a neat bow.
Tommy Squirrel, a cheerful classmate, notices and scurries over. "Your shoe's coming undone, Ben! Want me to double-knot it?" "Yes, please," Ben replies, grateful. Tommy Squirrel quickly secures the laces, grinning. As the bell rings, a passing teacher gives Ben a reassuring pat on the shoulder for being so resourceful.
Ben's chest tightens with guilt. He realizes he never stopped to help Lina like everyone helped him. The city noise fades as his determination grows.
Ben kneels beside his sister, his ears tinged with embarrassment. "Lina, can I help you tie your shoes now?" "Really? Thank you, Ben!" With careful paws, Ben ties both of Lina's shoes, making sure the bows are perfect. Lina beams, her eyes shining with gratitude.
"Next time, I'll always help you, Lina. I promise." "And I'll help you too, Ben!" The two siblings share a hug, their bond stronger for the lesson learned. The city outside feels just a little bit kinder tonight.
