Bertie sat at the small round table, his feet barely touching the floor, grinning as he watched Bear eagerly nibble on a triangle of toast. Beside them, a chipped yellow mug steamed with hot chocolate, sending swirls of cocoa-scented air around the room. The clock on the wall ticked softly, marking the start of another day filled with fun and possibilities.
Bear[/@ch_2] jumps up in alarm.]
Bear froze, his eyes wide with fright, and quickly darted behind Bertie, clutching at his friend's sleeve. The noise became a steady rumble, echoing around the kitchen and making the plates tremble ever so slightly. "Bertie, what is that sound? Is it a monster?"
Bertie drew himself up bravely, stepping protectively in front of Bear. "Nothing to be scared of," he assured his friend with a gentle squeeze. "I'll deal with this," he added, trying to sound as grown-up as possible, though he, too, was curious about the intruder.
Bertie[/@ch_1] stands tall, calling out above the noise.]
"Excuse me, Mr. Hoover!" he shouted, waving his arms to get the machine’s attention. "My friend, Bear, is afraid you're going to hoover him up!" The hoover halted with a dramatic sigh of its engine, its bag deflating a little as the noise ceased.
Bear[/@ch_2] peeks out from behind Bertie. The tension in the room melts into curiosity.]
Bear blinked in surprise, not quite sure what to do. Bertie, always wise, quickly realized the gift’s purpose. He slipped the headphones over Bear’s ears and showed him how to adjust them. Instantly, Bear broke into a wide grin and started to dance, spinning and hopping so much that the hoover finished cleaning without him noticing.
Bear[/@ch_2] dances with his headphones, Bertie claps along, and the hoover hums contentedly. A feeling of warmth and safety fills the room.]
"Thank you, Mr. Hoover, for the headphones," Bear called out, no longer afraid. From that day on, whenever the hoover appeared, Bertie made sure Bear had his headphones ready, so music and laughter filled the air instead of fear. In the cozy house on Penny Street, friendship and understanding always won the day.
