Taym stood on his tiptoes, peering into the crib that awaited his baby sister. His small hands clutched the edge of the crib as he imagined what it would be like to finally meet Elma.
"I hope she likes her room," he whispered, glancing at his mother who was smoothing out a tiny pink blanket.
Taym eagerly held up a pair of baby socks, marveling at how small they were. His father chuckled, gently tousling Taym's hair.
"You'll be a great big brother, Taym," his father said, a proud smile on his face.
Taym nodded, determination shining in his eyes.
Taym held his breath as he peeked at Elma nestled in his mother's arms. Her tiny hands moved slightly, and her eyes blinked open, meeting Taym's gaze for the first time.
"Hello, Elma," he whispered softly, feeling a wave of love and protectiveness wash over him.
Taym watched as his parents attended to Elma, feeling a slight pang of envy but also understanding the importance of his new role.
"Can I help?" he asked, eager to contribute.
His mother smiled warmly, guiding him to hold Elma's bottle. Taym felt a sense of pride swell within him.
Taym giggled as Elma reached for the bright-colored toys he dangled above her. Her laughter was infectious, and soon they were both basking in the joy of each other's company.
"I think she likes me," Taym beamed, looking proudly at his parents who watched them with loving eyes.
Taym gently adjusted the mobile, watching it spin slowly above Elma who was drifting off to sleep.
"Goodnight, Elma," he whispered, feeling grateful for the special bond they were beginning to form.
As he tiptoed out of the room, he knew that he was ready to embrace all the adventures that lay ahead as a big brother.
