Bottomless Potamus was a happy hippo, round as the moon and twice as bouncy. His belly wobbled when he giggled, and it rumbled louder than a thunderstorm. He was always searching for something to munch, crunch, or slurp. "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!" sang the birds from the riverbank.

Milo the Monkey peeled a banana and grinned. "Would you like to share a snack?" he asked. Bottomless Potamus gobbled five bananas—Munch! Slurp!—and grinned back. "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!" laughed Milo.
Penelope Parrot[/@ch_3] perches on a branch, balancing a tray of crackers with seeds. Feathers shimmer and crumbs float to the ground.]
Penelope Parrot squawked from above. "Crackers for you, crackers for me!" she chirped. Bottomless Potamus gobbled every crunchy cracker—Crunch! Crunch!—and licked the tray clean. "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!" squawked Penelope.
Colin Crocodile[/@ch_4] lounges in the sun with a shiny pile of silvery fish. The water glimmers and reeds sway in the breeze.]
Colin Crocodile held up a fish and winked. "Care to try some fishy treats?" he asked. Bottomless Potamus slurped three fish—Slurp! Slurp!—and sighed with delight. "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!" grinned Colin.

Bottomless Potamus sat and stared at his dinner, but his tummy felt tight as a drum. He tried to eat, but—oh no!—he groaned and held his belly. "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!" chuckled his mum, tucking him into bed.

Bottomless Potamus moaned and rolled, his tummy rumbling and grumbling. Suddenly—BUUUURP!—out came the biggest hippo burp ever, rattling the window. He smiled, feeling much better, and promised, "Next time, I’ll listen…maybe!" But from under the covers, his tummy whispered, "But you’re always hungry, Bottomless!"
