Mariam sat at her desk, her fingers tracing the title of an open book. Despite the cheerful surroundings, Mariam's mind drifted back to the days when walking was a distant dream.
Mariam remembered the long months confined to bed, the frustration of watching other kids run and play outside her window. "I won't give up," she had whispered to herself back then, clutching her stuffed bear tightly.
Mariam felt a flutter of nerves as she learned about her new partner, Leo, a shy first grader with big glasses and an infectious giggle.
Leo sat cross-legged, eyes wide as Mariam opened a book filled with colorful pictures. "Let's start with the first page," she encouraged, pointing to the first word. "C-c-cat," Leo stammered, grinning as Mariam nodded in approval.
Mariam realized she was beginning to see reading not as a hurdle, but as a journey she could navigate, one step at a time. "I can do this," she whispered to herself, feeling a newfound determination.
She imagined the stories she would write, tales of courage and resilience. Mariam smiled, knowing that one day she would inspire others to be brave like her.
