Brendan sat on the edge of his bed, clutching Benny the Bear, his beloved plush toy. Today was the day he dreaded most—dentist day. His stomach churned with unease, and his palms were sweaty. Brendan"I wish I didn't have to go to the dentist", he whispered to Benny, burying his face in the bear's soft fur.
Brendan felt the familiar wave of anxiety wash over him. His heart raced, and a sense of impending doom threatened to engulf him. Suddenly, he remembered the toolkit his mom had helped him create. Inside were tools to help him face his fears. [@ch_1]Brendan[/@ch_1_d]"I can do this,"[/@ch_1_d] he told himself, reaching for the bright blue box on his bedside table.
Inside were colorful cards with breathing exercises, a tiny bottle of calming lavender oil, and a picture of Dr. Lee, the friendly dentist. Brendan picked up a card and began to breathe deeply, just like the instructions said. "In through the nose, out through the mouth," he repeated, feeling a little calmer with each breath.
Mom held Brendan's hand gently. "Remember, I'm right here with you," she said softly. Brendan nodded, squeezing Benny the Bear tightly. The fresh air and his mom's reassuring presence made him feel a little braver.
Dr. Lee, a gentle man with a warm smile, greeted them. "Hello, Brendan! Are you ready to see how strong your teeth are?" he asked kindly. Brendan nodded, clutching Benny for comfort. "Okay," he said, remembering to breathe.
Brendan felt a flutter of anxiety but focused on his breathing and Benny the Bear's comforting presence. Dr. Lee explained each step, making the visit feel like an adventure. "You're doing great, Brendan!" Dr. Lee praised. Slowly, the fear began to melt away, replaced by a sense of accomplishment.
Brendan felt proud of himself. Mom gave him a hug. "You were so brave today," she said. Brendan smiled, holding Benny close. "I guess the dentist isn't so scary after all," he said, feeling the weight of fear lift from his shoulders.
