Nick, a small, freckled ten-year-old, sits stiffly on the edge of the couch, clutching a battered Digimon backpack. His mother, radiant with hope, introduces her new husband, Jacob, a tall teenager with a sly grin who used to be Nick’s bully at school. The tension is palpable as Nick avoids Jacob’s gaze, silently wishing the evening away.
Jacob pokes his head in, noticing the smell and the wet sheets. "Seriously, you still wet the bed?" he laughs loudly, echoing through the house. Nick curls up, cheeks burning, wishing he could disappear as Jacob leaves, still snickering.
Jacob wakes up with damp pajamas, his shock palpable as he realizes his own accident. "Looks like I’m not the only one," Nick says, a hint of vindication in his voice. "But I’m not in a diaper," Jacob retorts defensively, but the embarrassment is clear.
Jacob can’t resist telling his friends about Nick’s bedwetting. "Hey everyone, Nick still wears diapers!" he shouts, grabbing Nick’s waistband and pulling it down, exposing his Digimon briefs. The crowd erupts—Luke, a classmate with messy hair, teases: "What are you, five?" Nick’s fists clench, anger simmering as humiliation overtakes him.
Jacob continues to pick on Nick, giving him a wedgie and mocking his bedwetting. Nick finally snaps, lunging at Jacob and landing a solid punch. The scuffle intensifies until their parents burst in, voices stern and shocked. Both boys are grounded, sent to their rooms with tears and bruised egos.
Jacob slips into Nick’s room, nursing his pride. "You know, you’ve got a mean right hook," he admits, a grudging respect in his eyes. Nick nods, still angry but curious. Jacob confides: "I started wetting the bed because of all the stress. Maybe I’ll be back in diapers like you." The vulnerability surprises Nick, softening his resentment.
Jacob and Nick play video games together, teasing each other but without cruelty. "Guess we’re both diaper babies for now," Jacob jokes, and Nick laughs, feeling closer than ever before. Their rivalry fades, replaced by the beginnings of true brotherhood.
