Lucy finished her homework, her thoughts drifting to the curious happenings of the past few nights. "I wonder where you go when I'm asleep, Bucket," she mused, scratching his fluffy head. Bucket merely blinked back at her with an innocent gaze.
Lucy tiptoed to her best friend's house, a few doors down. She tapped on the window, waking Max, a boy with a knack for solving puzzles. "What's up, Lucy? It's late!" he whispered, rubbing his eyes.
"Bucket sneaks out every night! I need your help to find out where he goes," Lucy explained eagerly.
Max grinned, excitement in his voice. "This is like a real detective mission!" he said, keeping close to Lucy. They watched as Bucket padded down the street, turning into the alley behind the bakery.
"Why the bakery?" Lucy wondered aloud. Bucket disappeared through a small gap in the fence.
Lucy and Max crouched behind a bush, eyes wide in surprise. Bucket joined his feline friends, who seemed to be enjoying leftover pastries. "Looks like a secret cat party," Max chuckled.
"I guess Bucket has been having fun with his friends," Lucy said, smiling at the sight of her adventurous pet.
Lucy yawned, feeling both tired and thrilled by their nocturnal adventure. "Thanks for coming with me, Max. Now we know Bucket's little secret," she said.
"Anytime, Lucy. Maybe next time we can join the party," Max replied with a grin.
Lucy nodded, feeling happy to have solved the mystery. As Bucket settled back on the couch, Lucy knew she'd cherish this secret adventure forever.
