Liam sat cross-legged on his bed, clutching a small stuffed bear. He could hardly contain his excitement, knowing that soon he would meet his baby sister.
"I can't wait to show Caroline my favorite dragonfly book," he whispered, imagining all the adventures they would share.
Caroline let out a tiny cry, her eyes fluttering open for the first time. Liam stepped closer, his heart pounding with happiness.
"Hello, Caroline. I'm your big brother," he said softly, his smile wide and bright.
The doctors move quietly, their voices hushed. Liam reaches for his sister’s tiny hand, wishing he could make her better.
"Why can't Caroline come home with us?" he asks, his voice trembling.
Liam presses his face to the glass, eyes wide in amazement at the swirling colors and delicate patterns. His parents kneel beside him, gently wrapping their arms around him.
"Look, Liam," his mother says softly, "The dragonflies are here for Caroline. They’re her way of telling us she loves us."
It is as if Caroline is sending him gentle messages, reminding him that she is near. Whenever Liam sees a dragonfly, he smiles, feeling the warmth of their bond.
"Thank you, Caroline," he whispers, his heart lighter each time.
He knows now that some bonds are forever, no matter what. The dragonflies have become his special sign—a reminder of hope, change, and the unbreakable love between a brother and sister.
"I’ll always remember you, Caroline. You’re with me wherever I go," he promises, watching the dragonfly take flight into the night.
