Chad, a ten-year-old boy with eager eyes, bounces next to his mom and dad. His older sister, Hailey, ties her shoes and glances at him with a teasing smile.
"I can’t believe today’s the day I get my first pet!"
Mom ruffles Chad's hair, and Dad checks the keys. The whole family steps out into the bright Saturday morning, ready for a new adventure.
Chad roams the aisles, his eyes darting from guinea pigs to playful kittens, but he hesitates, overwhelmed by choices. Hailey points out a hamster spinning in its wheel, but Chad shakes his head.
"I want a pet I can run with and play fetch,"
After searching, he spots a goofy dog wagging its tail—a brown pup named Rover, whose floppy ears and silly grin make Chad laugh out loud.
Mom kneels beside Chad, asking if he’s sure. Dad reads Rover’s tag aloud, and Hailey giggles as Rover chases his own tail.
"He’s perfect. Can we take him home?"
The shop assistant grins and hands Chad the leash. Rover bounds out, nearly tripping over his paws, and the family laughs together.
Chad carefully selects a dog bowl with paw prints, and Hailey insists on getting a bone-shaped treat. After paying, they gather outside for ice cream, Rover licking Chad’s cone with his silly tongue.
"I think Rover likes vanilla best!"
Dad snaps a photo as everyone laughs, and Mom wipes ice cream off Rover’s nose.
Chad throws a ball, and Rover chases it, stumbling and rolling in the grass. Hailey claps, and Mom and Dad watch with smiles as Chad and Rover run together, their laughter echoing.
"This is the best day ever, Rover!"
Dogs and owners mingle, and the park is alive with joyful barking and cheerful voices.

Hailey hands Chad a fluffy towel, and Mom helps dry Rover. Dad brings pajamas for Chad, and the boy cuddles his new dog as he gets ready for bed.
"Goodnight, Rover. I’m so glad you’re my dog,"
Rover curls up next to Chad, their breathing slow and steady as the house grows quiet. The perfect Saturday ends with dreams of more adventures to come.
