Lila bounded out the back door, her pigtails bouncing with each step. Her sisters, Maya and Tessa, followed closely behind, their laughter harmonizing with the morning birdsong. "Let's see who reaches the chickens first!" Lila shouted, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Maya, the eldest, stretched her long legs and sprinted ahead, while Tessa, with her carefree grin, tried to keep pace. Their feet left a trail of tiny footprints in the grass as they raced towards the coop.
"Looks like I'm the winner!" declared Tessa, reaching the coop just as Maya and Lila came to a halt beside her. The sisters giggled, their breath mingling in the crisp air, as they leaned over to greet their clucking companions.
"Hello, Henrietta! Hey, Gertie!" Lila cooed, scattering feed across the ground. The chickens fluttered around her feet, their feathers brushing against her legs as they pecked eagerly.
"What's that over there?" Maya wondered aloud, pointing towards the mysterious object. Intrigued, the sisters gathered around as Maya gently moved the straw aside, revealing a perfectly formed egg, its shell gleaming in the morning light.
"It's an egg!" Tessa exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder. Lila clapped her hands in delight, her imagination already running wild with possibilities.
"Let's go on an egg hunt!" suggested Lila, her gaze shifting between her sisters. Maya nodded in agreement, her mind already mapping out the best hiding spots in the yard.
"And maybe we can make something special with it later!" added Tessa, her thoughts drifting to the kitchen where their mother often baked.
Maya dashed towards the garden, her eyes scanning the rows of tomato plants and sunflowers. Meanwhile, Tessa wove through the apple trees, her hands brushing against the rough bark.
Lila, the smallest and most agile, ducked beneath the swings, peering into the shadows for any hint of an egg. Their laughter echoed under the blue sky, blending with the distant hum of a lawnmower.
"We did it!" Tessa cheered, looking at their bounty with pride. Maya nodded, feeling the warmth of accomplishment.
"Let's make an omelet for dinner!" suggested Lila, her stomach rumbling in agreement. Together, they headed towards the house, their hearts full of joy and their minds buzzing with the day's adventures.
