Christa settled into her armchair, the mug of cocoa warming her hands. Her gaze drifted to the jar of peppermint candies, only to find it empty. "Coco!" she exclaimed, eyeing her fluffy brown poodle. Coco wagged his tail, feigning innocence, but the trail of candy wrappers told another story.
Determined to uncover the truth, Christa grabbed her magnifying glass and bundled up against the chill. The wrappers led them out the back door and through the yard, where tiny paw prints marked the snow. "Coco, what have you been up to?" she mused, curiosity piqued as they followed the trail.
Mrs. Granger greeted them with a chuckle, her eyes twinkling. "Oh, you're here about the candy, aren't you?" she said, gesturing inside. Christa's eyes widened at the sight of her candies scattered across the floor, with Coco in the midst, surrounded by Mrs. Granger's playful cats.
Christa laughed, kneeling to hug Coco. "You sneaky dog, sharing Christmas cheer with Mrs. Granger!" Mrs. Granger smiled, a touch of nostalgia in her eyes. "These peppermint candies remind me of my childhood," she said softly. Christa realized then that Coco had brought more than candy; he had brought joy.
Together, they set off, Coco pulling the wagon with his tail wagging. Christa beamed as they visited neighbors, sharing sweets and laughter. "Merry Christmas!" she called, the spirit of giving warming her heart.
Christa reflected on the joy Coco had brought to their holiday. "Sometimes, the best surprises come in paw prints," she mused, glancing at Coco. With him by her side, every day felt touched by a little Christmas magic.
