Ethan sat cross-legged on the plush carpet, his first-grade badge of honor—a bright red backpack—resting beside him. Across from him, his younger sister Lily, with her curly hair bouncing with every movement, was surrounded by a colorful sea of toys.
"Hey, Lily! Let's play a game with these blocks," Ethan suggested, holding up a handful of cheerful counting blocks.
Lily clapped her hands, her eyes lighting up with excitement. "Okay, Ethan! I love games!"
Ethan arranged the blocks in a neat line. "This is number one," he said, pointing to the first block, its surface painted in vibrant yellow.
Lily nodded earnestly, her small fingers tracing the block. "One," she repeated, her voice filled with determination.
"Good job! Now, let's find number two," Ethan encouraged, watching as Lily picked up a blue block with a proud grin.
Ethan continued, "Three comes after two," adding another block to their growing line.
Lily, with a thoughtful frown, counted aloud, "One, two, three!" Her voice was hesitant but filled with a budding confidence.
"You're getting it, Lily! Let's keep going," Ethan said, handing her the next block.
Lily giggled as she placed the fourth block. "Four, five, six," she counted, her voice gaining strength with each number.
Ethan beamed with pride. "Almost there, Lily," he said, hugging her gently.
Lily looked up at him with shining eyes. "I can do it, Ethan!"
Ethan watched as Lily finished the line of blocks, her small hands steady. "Seven, eight, nine, ten!" she exclaimed, her voice triumphant.
"You did it!" Ethan cheered, clapping his hands. Lily joined in, their laughter echoing like a joyful melody.
Ethan and Lily lay back on the carpet, their hearts full. "You're a great learner, Lily," Ethan said softly.
Lily snuggled closer, her voice a whisper of gratitude. "Thanks for teaching me, Ethan. You're the best brother," she murmured, her eyes closing in contentment.
Together, they drifted into a peaceful slumber, dreaming of the adventures that awaited them, knowing that with each other's help, they could count on anything.
