Custard bounded out of the cottage, his feathers a little ruffled and a big grin on his face. Mango sat on the porch, nose buried in a large, colorful book, while Buttons carefully arranged a bouquet of wildflowers in a tin cup. "Let's do something amazing today! Maybe we can build a raft or find hidden treasure!"
Mango set her book aside and leaned forward, her eyes glimmering with ideas. "Why don't we explore the little island downstream? I read that sometimes rare shells wash up there after the rain."Buttons nodded quietly, patting Custard’s shoulder with a gentle, reassuring paw. "I'll pack snacks and bandages, just in case," she offered softly.
Custard eagerly grabs the oars, but they splash more than steer, sending droplets everywhere. Mango laughs, taking over to guide them straight, while Buttons sits in the bow, humming and scanning the banks for interesting plants. "Look! A frog in a tiny hat!" "That’s just a lily pad, Custard," Mango giggled, shaking her head.
Mango leads the way, eyes sharp for shiny shells, while Custard flies ahead, chasing butterflies. Buttons kneels to examine a patch of bright blue flowers. "What if we find a pirate's note in a bottle?""Even if we don’t, I think we’ll find something special," Buttons replies, her voice warm and hopeful.
Mango gasps in delight and kneels to inspect the shells, identifying each one. Custard invents stories about their origins, his imagination running wild. Buttons gently picks up the turtle and checks that it’s unharmed, smiling softly. "This one is definitely magical. Maybe it grants wishes!""Or maybe it just wants a snack, Custard," Mango teases.
The friends share the day’s treasures and stories, laughter echoing across the water. Buttons hands out sandwiches, and Mango records their discoveries in her journal. Custard promises that tomorrow’s adventure will be even grander. "As long as we’re together, every day is the best adventure,""And we can always find a little magic by the river,"
