Daisy, a small girl with curly brown hair and wide, hopeful eyes, skips along the sidewalk, her favorite blue backpack bouncing behind her. She clutches a lunchbox covered in cheerful stickers, her gaze fixed on the big school doors ahead. The air feels crisp and full of promise as Daisy smiles, imagining the stories she’ll share with her friends.
Olivia, a girl with sharp eyes and a tightly braided ponytail, steps into Daisy’s path. Without warning, Olivia scowls, her voice rising above the chatter. "Why do you even bother coming to school, Daisy? You always look so silly and slow! I wish you’d just stay home." Daisy freezes, her smile fading, as the words sting sharper than she expected.
Daisy’s lips tremble, and she sinks to her knees, clutching her lunchbox tightly. Tears begin to spill down her cheeks, each drop glinting in the harsh hallway light. She muffles a sob, but the sadness grows heavier, pressing on her chest until she can’t hold back the pain.
Daisy’s cries grow louder and louder, echoing off the lockers until it’s impossible to ignore. Her small fists clench in frustration, and her sobs turn into anguished screams. The walls seem to shake with the force of her emotion, and even Olivia steps back, startled by the rawness of Daisy’s pain.
Daisy rises, her face red with tears, and faces Olivia. "Why do you have to be so mean to me? I just wanted to be happy and have friends, but you always make me feel so small and sad!" Her voice quivers, but her eyes shine with a fierce honesty. Olivia blinks, her bravado faltering, caught off guard by Daisy’s outburst.
Olivia’s expression softens as she kneels beside Daisy. "I’m sorry, Daisy. I didn’t know I was hurting you so much. I guess sometimes I get upset too, and I take it out on others." Daisy sniffles, wiping her eyes, and murmurs, "I just wanted my friend to be kind. I don’t like feeling alone."
Olivia opens her arms, and Daisy accepts the hug, both of them crying anew—but now with tears of relief and joy. "Let’s try to be better friends from now on," Olivia whispers. Daisy smiles through her tears, and together, they walk down the hallway, ready to face the rest of the day side by side.
