Daisy stretched her neck, shaking her mane as she sniffed the cool morning air. The sweet scent of clover drifted from the far side of the field, and her hooves pressed softly into the damp earth. All around her, the world was waking, but something new caught her attention—a faint rustle in the branches above.
Twitch, the squirrel, hesitates, his paws tight around an acorn. He inches forward, tail flicking, and calls down to the horse. "Hey down there! Are you the big creature who lives in the field?"
Daisy tilts her head, her ears pricked forward, and answers with a soft nicker. "I suppose I am. Who are you?"
Shade, the crow, bows his head in greeting. "I am Shade, watcher of the skies. I’ve seen you run across the fields, Daisy. You’re as swift as the wind."
Daisy feels a flush of pride, her tail swishing. "Thank you, Shade. Would you both like to be my friends?"
"I’d like that!" chirps Twitch, clambering down the trunk. "Friends see more together than alone," agrees Shade.
Daisy lowers her head, pretending to chase Twitch, who zigzags just out of reach. Shade swoops low, his shadow dancing over both of them. Laughter and playful cries fill the air, the trio’s bond growing with every moment. "Catch me if you can, Daisy!" shouts Twitch, his voice bubbling with joy.
Shade tells tales of far-off fields and secret streams, his voice rich with wonder. Twitch shares stories of finding the tastiest nuts and narrow escapes from curious foxes. Daisy describes the thrill of galloping across the pasture and the kindness of the farmer who brushes her coat each evening. "I’ve never had friends like you before," she admits softly.
Twitch curls up on a low branch, eyes growing heavy, while Shade fluffs his feathers, preparing for a night’s watch. Daisy stands close, heart full. "We’ll meet here again tomorrow," promises Shade. As the first stars appear, the new friends settle in, knowing that with each day, their adventures are just beginning.
