Dov bounded into the playground, his eyes bright with excitement. Clutching his soccer ball tightly, he scanned the area for his classmates. They were 5 boys who he likes playing with running around playing tag. "Hey, let's play soccer!" he called out, his voice full of enthusiasm.
Yossi, one of the boys, paused and gave Dov an apologetic shrug and went back to continue to play tag with the others.
Dov sighed and kicked at the dirt. "Why doesn't anyone want to play with me?" he muttered to himself. As he sat there, feeling sorry for himself, he began to realize that he shouldn't. It's his choice not join and he can either choose to play along or choose to be alone, and either way is fine.
In that moment, Dov stood up, brushed off his pants, and ran over to the boys. "Hey, can I join you guys?!" he asked, a hint of hope in his voice.
Without a moment of hesitation, Yossi tagged Dov, "You're it!" Dov beamed, feeling the joy of shared play, while running after Mendy, who was standing close by.
Dov realized that sometimes, being flexible could lead to unexpected fun. He had enjoyed playing soccer, and more importantly, he had learned to appreciate the joy of trying something new. When it was time to go back in, Dov turned to Yossi and said happily, "That was fun." Yossi grinned back, "Yeah, let's play soccer next time!" Dov nodded, feeling content.
