Ethan, a boy of ten with tousled hair and thoughtful eyes, sits cross-legged on his bed, gazing absently at the ceiling. Around him, sketches of rockets, animals, and musical notes hint at an imagination in full bloom. The room is quiet except for the distant laughter of children playing outside.
Ethan picks up a pencil and begins to doodle, his mind swirling with questions. "What do I really want to be when I grow up?" he wonders aloud, his voice barely louder than a whisper. Each possibility feels exciting, yet far away, like the stars he loves to trace on his ceiling each night.
"Maybe I could be a musician," he muses, feeling the thrill of applause in his daydream. The crowd’s cheers echo in his imagination, and for a moment, he feels the weight of the piano keys beneath his hands.
"Or a scientist, discovering new things and helping people," he says, smiling at the thought of unravelling mysteries. The sense of wonder and curiosity stirs within him, lighting a spark that makes his eyes shine.
Mom, Ethan’s mother, kind and attentive, always ready to listen.
"You look deep in thought, Ethan. What’s on your mind?"
"I’m just trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up," he confides, glancing at her.
"There’s no rush," she replies softly, brushing a lock of hair from his forehead. "You have so many gifts. The most important thing is to follow what makes you happy."
Ethan smiles, feeling a gentle sense of peace. "Maybe I don’t need to decide just yet," he thinks, closing his eyes for a moment. The future is wide and open, waiting for him to explore, and tonight, that is enough.
