Ellie the elephant stood at the edge of a sun-dappled clearing, her large eyes scanning the ground for her missing sock. "I can't believe I've lost it," she sighed, her trunk swinging with dismay.
Her first stop was Leo the lion, who basked lazily on a sunlit rock. "Leo, have you seen my blue sock?" she called out.
"I haven't seen a sock, my dear Ellie, just the sun and the bees, oh so freely," replied Leo with a yawn.
Ellie approached Tina the toucan, who perched on a branch. "Tina, have you seen my blue sock?" she inquired hopefully.
"Not a sock in sight, no blue to see, just the sky and the leaves, wild and free," chirped Tina with a wink.
"Gerry, have you seen my sock?" she asked, looking up at the towering figure.
"No, dear Ellie, I have not seen a sock. Just the clouds as they pass, and the tick-tock of the clock," replied Gerry, bending down to meet her gaze.
Ellie found Milo the mouse peeking out from a little hole. "Milo, have you seen my blue sock?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
"Oh, dear Ellie," squeaked Milo, "I found it so fine, and now it's my home, cozy and divine!"
Ellie smiled warmly at Milo. "Keep it, dear Milo. A home is worth more than a sock," she said, her heart filled with joy at having helped a friend.
Ellie turned back toward her home, the soft glow of the fireflies lighting her way, knowing that her lost sock had found a much better use.
