Emma woke with a smile, stretching her arms wide as golden rays warmed her cheeks. Today felt special, and she couldn’t wait to see her friends. She reached for her favorite hairband and glanced at the mirror, practicing a confident grin. "It’s going to be a great day," she whispered.
Maggie raced over, her ponytail bouncing, followed closely by Mikey, who carried a bright red ball. "Emma! Let’s play tag," called Maggie, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I bet I can run faster than both of you!" teased Mikey. Emma paused, feeling a flutter of nerves, but nodded and joined in.
As the game began, Emma accidentally tagged Mikey too hard, causing him to stumble. He frowned, dusting off his knees. Emma felt her cheeks grow hot with embarrassment. "I’m so sorry, Mikey. I didn’t mean to hurt you," she said softly. "It’s okay, Emma. I know you didn’t mean it," replied Mikey, his smile returning.
Maggie noticed Emma’s worried expression and sat close. "You did the right thing by saying sorry. That’s what friends do," she encouraged. Emma nodded, feeling a warmth in her chest. She realized how important it was to care about others’ feelings.
When a disagreement arose about who should lead the game, Emma remembered what she’d learned. She took a deep breath, listening to everyone’s ideas before sharing her own. "Maybe we can take turns being the leader, so everyone gets a chance," she suggested. The group agreed, and the activity continued with laughter and teamwork.
Emma walked home, her heart light and her steps quick. She thought about how she’d used her words, listened closely, and showed empathy. "I learned so much today," she said aloud, imagining all the ways she could help her friends in the future. As she reached her front door, she knew she was growing stronger, kinder, and more confident every day.
